London’s Growing Underground No.5 The New Charing Cross Station

Designed by E Barker for London Transport. Printed by Impress (Acton) Ltd. Lithograph on Paper. Print Code 1276/3210M/1000. Measures 101cm x 63cm (Double Royal). Condition: Outstanding near perfect.

Following the success of his stunning cutaway posters for the Victoria Line development in the 1960s, E Barker was engaged by London Transport once more to create a series of posters promoting stations being developed for the new Fleet Line (which was renamed Jubilee Line upon opening in 1977).

Charing Cross saw the most significant transformation during the Jubilee Line development, with three stations in close proximity being merged into one - those being The Strand, Trafalgar Square and the existing Charing Cross station. Meanwhile Charing Cross (Embankment) on the District and Circle Lines was renamed Embankment.

Barker’s 3D illustrations brought to life the scale, complexity and ingenuity of Underground station construction.
