Original Plaster Mould for ‘Phantom of the Opera’ Prosthetic - Hugh Panaro c.1999.

Designed and produced by Christopher Tucker (1941 –2022). Solid plaster mould in two pieces and marked “HP" with "Hugh Panaro" written on the outside in pencil. Undated. Used for the Broadway production at The Majestic Theatre, New York. Excellent Condition, some chips here and there consistent with repeated use. Provenance: Purchased directly from the estate of Chris Tucker following his death in December 2022.

This mould was produced by Chris Tucker and his studio for one of the best and longest serving Phantoms to play the role in Broadway, Hugh Panaro. Each mould is produced specifically for the actor and is used to produce the latex facial disfigurement of the Phantoms face. Chris Tucker devised the original make up for Michael Crawford alongside with Maria Bjornson for the original 1986 London production. The Chris Tucker studio was also responsible for the prosthetics for The Fly, Total Recall and most notably The Elephant Man.

Hugh Panaro has played the role on three separate occasions, all in Broadway. Having played the role of Raoul as far back as 1991, Panaro took over the role of Phantom in 1999 for a few months. He returned to the role in the early 2000s until late 2005. He then reprised the role in 2010 which he held, with a few breaks, until 2014.
